Japan is the land of the rising sun. But its status in the fashion world is also rising. So much that this is our third installment of “International Scene: Tokyo”. Tokyo, is home to many fashion forces. The streetwear scene in Tokyo is heavily influenced by Western designs, but still maintains a unique Japanese flavor. Here’s a look at a few Japanese t-shirt brands.
This brand, from Harajuku, Tokyo, was created by Shinsuke Takizawa. Most of the designs are inspired by rebel biker culture. Takizawa’s main influence for getting into motorcycle culture was the movie Easy Rider. In addition to t-shirts, the brand is mainly known for its vintage denim and jackets.
Swagger is Tokyo’s leading streetwear brand. They’ve been featured on popular blogs like HypeBeast and FreshnessMag, and collaborated with many other brands inlcuding Rocksmith, Porter, and Stussy.
Jun Watanabe is a Japanese graphic designer, known for using crazy neon colors like hot pink, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Watanabe’s designs are very bold and expressive. He has collaborated with many other designers and brands such as SUBCARISM, PALM BOY, Devilock3, and Hello Kitty.
